Abstract: It was previously reported that nursery rhymes enhance children's musical processing skills and phonological sensitivity which in turn helps them to learn to read. Mamma and the Baby is classic nursery rhyme, written early nineteenth century by sisters Jane Taylor and Ann Taylor. They published their collection of nursery rhyme poems in 1806 as a book "Rhymes for the Nursery" where "Mamma and the Baby" appears on page 4. Here, we extend the nursery rhyme by Jane and Ann Taylor, by reporting original word games for preschool children and creating original cartoons for babies and toddlers.

Mamma and the Baby. Classic Nursery Rhyme lyrics

What a little thing am I!
Hardly higher than the table;
I can eat, and play, and cry,
But to work I am not able.

Nothing in the world I know,
But mamma will try and show me;
Sweet mamma, I love her so,
She's so very kind unto me.

And she sets me on her knee,
Very often, for some kisses:
Oh ! how good I'll try to be,
For such a dear mamma as this is.

This is classical nursery rhyme, written early nineteenth century by sisters Jane Taylor and Ann Taylor. They published their collection of nursery rhyme poems in 1806 as a book "Rhymes for the Nursery" where "Getting up" is the third poem [1]. Here, we extend the nursery rhyme by Jane and Ann Taylor, by reporting original word games for preschool children and creating original cartoons for babies and toddlers [2-3].

Nursery rhyme discussion for parents and teachers. Teaching and learning advice and word games

Previous evidence show that knowledge of nursery rhymes enhances children's phonological sensitivity which in turn helps them to learn to read [4]. Additionally, nursery rhymes (especially those set to music) improve invented spelling skills, verbal memory, tonal and rhythm perception skills [5].

To build on this data and to help parents and educators to extend educational value of classic nursery rhymes, we developed a simple crossword puzzle of words in "Mamma and the Baby" verses by Jane Taylor and Ann Taylor, and report here cute letters and word games for children, easy for beginners and those who learns English as a Second Language (ESL). Interestingly, no alphabet knowledge or reading skills are required to play our nursery rhymes games, as these games are rather English letters and ABC's comparison challenge. Playing such mind games will help developing every child ability to focus, and will be a funny workout to improve concentration, attention, creative thinking and problem solving skills. Word and Letters Games are based on original lyrics and decribed below, while crossword puzzles of 2 to 4 words are included in printable mini book .pdf of Rhymes for the Nursery Volume 1 [2].
